If you’re planning to travel from Heraklion Airport to Rethymno, the bus is a convenient and affordable mode of transportation. There’s no direct bus from Heraklion Airport to Rethymno, therefore you first need to get on a bus to Heraklion KTEL Terminal which is located near the port. From there, get on a bus to Rethymno town – the bus service to Rethymno is frequent and convenient. Make sure you check the bus schedule in advance, as departure times may vary depending on the season (https://www.e-ktel.com/). 

Purchase your ticket either from the ticket office at the airport or directly from the bus driver. Always carry cash with you as many bus drivers cannot accept debit or credit cards. The fare costs from Heraklion KTEL Terminal to Rethymno costs around 8€ and it takes around 90 mins to get there.

You can easily find a taxi right outside Heraklion Airport’s departures building or hire one in advance. The average price for a taxi ride from Heraklion Airport to Rethymno will cost you around 100-120€.

How do I get from Heraklion Airport to Rethymno by car?

If you prefer the freedom and flexibility of driving, getting from Heraklion Airport to Rethymno by car is a convenient option. Upon leaving Heraklion Airport, head northeast and merge onto the E75 highway. Continue on the E75 for approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) until you reach the exit for Rethymno. Take the exit and follow the signs leading you to Rethymno. The journey typically takes around 1 hour, depending on traffic conditions. As you drive along the highway, you will pass through beautiful landscapes and have the opportunity to enjoy scenic views of the northern Cretan coast.
